The "Flat Bottom Girls" Flounder TournamentA few weeks ago I traveled offshore with Captain Tim Barefoot to witness a man-made reef being created. Tim is dedicated to making sure that my grandchildren have fish to catch and the reef is part of the solution.Another part of the solution is to actively re-stock fish and it's being done with success. Fish for Tomorrow has teamed up with UNCW and South Brunswick High School to start a flounder hatchery. It started just last year and they've already released thousands of flounder into the water.
These pictures are of the hatchery at South Brunswick High. The bunch of scientist-looking dudes on your right are actually just talking about football. As you read this baby flounder are growing inside aquatanks at South Brunswick High School in Southport. Don't just take my word for it, check out the website to see a video of them releasing flounder into the wild: http://www.fishfortomorrow.org/videos
Now that you've watched the video, you know what I was referring to when I mentioned "flounder with black spots"To raise money, awareness and capture live flounder for breeding, Fish for Tomorrow will host the 4th Annual Flat Bottom Girls Flounder Tournament this weekend. It costs just $125 to enter a boat.
